What is Osteopathic treatment?

Osteopathic medicine was developed in the 1870s by American Osteopathic Physician, Dr Andrew Taylor Still. He was one of the first in his time to study the attributes of good health to better understand the process of disease, and recovery.

Dr Still developed a specialised system of understanding health and recovery that identified the musculoskeletal system as a key element of health, and focussed on the unity of all body parts as fundamental to assisting the body in healing itself.

It's this unique philosophy that shapes the way in which an Osteopath applies treatment techniques, some of which are common to other manual therapies. This is what makes Osteopathic treatment fundamentally different to other forms of manual and manipulative treatment.

At Perth Osteopathic Medicine we incorporate current treatment developments in the tradition of our profession's founders.
